Across Ector County our citizens make our community strong, our traditions make it vibrant and our legacy makes it unique.
“As a citizen of Odessa, I want our city to be successful, I want it to prosper,” said Mary Caywod with the group Odessans for a Bright Future.
That prosperity starts in the classroom where the region’s growth is easy to see.
“One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is just the overcrowding. You know there are students 6 inches apart from each other. Their desks are crammed in there and our community is only going to continue to grow,” said ECISD parent Catherine Daniels.
And the solution is here. The ECISD 2023 bond package touches every campus in the district. It builds a new middle school, a new Career and Technical Education Center, and a new bus facility. It includes safety and security upgrades, replaces musical instruments, and installs new lighting for the athletic department. The total bond package provides updates and upgrades that will uplift every single student in the district.
“You have to understand that 33,467 kids is basically a small city and that’s the amount of kids we’re taking care of right now through this bond,” explained ECISD Bond Committee member Kevin Searcy.
Beginning Monday voters have the power to forge the future of our iconic community. Two weeks of early voting begins October 23rd.
There are three locations for early voting:
– The Ector County Courthouse Annex building – 1010 E. 8th Street
– The Kellus Turner Community Building – 2230 Sycamore Dr. in West Odessa
– The Parker Ranch House on the UTPB Campus – 2920 UTPB Main Rd.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 7th. The ballot will be short and voting should be fast.
“I actually had an experience recently. I was at a football game on Friday night and I overheard, there were two ladies behind me and they were talking about Ratliff Stadium and they said ‘Oh man they really need some work here.’ And the other lady next to her said ‘Well you know I think that’s included in the bond package.’ And she said ‘Oh good, we need that’,” said Caywood.
From the Friday night lights to the voting booth Monday morning, being part of this great community means voting to support the needs of our students.
Share the message, show up to the polls, and shape the future.
